Coturnix Quail for Eggs and Meat
We raise standard and jumbo coturnix quail in a variety of colors. We select for calm temperament, egg laying ability and proper size. Availability of colors, ages and sexed birds and hatching eggs varies so we list everything currently planned or in the brooders and pens on our Availability Page. |
Here is what we offer in general:
Hatching Eggs It takes just 18 days to hatch your own quail chicks! Week Old Chicks We sell quail chicks at one week old to make sure they had a good start and are eating and drinking. All chicks are straight run (not sexed) Six Week Old Hens / Roosters Sexed, ready to lay hens and males. Fully feathered and ready to live in your cage, hutch or aviary. The hens might take a week or two to get used to their new surroundings, but will start laying very soon after, if provided with adequate light and feed. Ready made Coveys 4 Hens and 1 Rooster (or multiples of these numbers) Generally there should be four hens for each rooster in a group (covey) of quail. Sometimes it is difficult to introduce individual birds to each other. We raise groups together so they will have a better chance of getting along without problems. |

Coturnix Quail are cold hardy and can live in outdoor hutches or aviaries year round. Just make sure they have shelter from wind and rain. It is very important to predator proof the enclosure! Quail cannot be kept free ranging like chickens, because they will not come back home at night.
Quail love their sand baths so be sure to provide one for them. The females are not very particular in where they lay their eggs, but sometimes they do pick a favorite spot, which makes egg collection easier if they are kept in a big aviary. |

This quail hutch was built locally by Feathered Fortress Coops, perfect for a covey of up to eight. It is predator proof, there is a sheltered space for the sand bath and warm bedding and an easy clean outside run.
There are many other designs of hutches available. You can keep a group of quail happy in a very small space! If you want to keep your quail in a shed, garage or outbuilding you can also keep them in cages. Cages are generally not predator proof and don’t provide shelter from the elements, so they need to be in an enclosed space. |
