Our approach to feeding poultry
All of our breeding flocks have access to generous pastures, fresh water, sunshine (or shade) and dust baths every day. In addition we feed sprouted grains, fermented grains and high protein feed in separate feeders so the birds can balance their nutrition themselves. Oyster shells and grit are offered.
Young birds are raised in brooders or grow out pens and since they can't free range high quality feed is of utmost importance. Fermented chick starter along with sprouted wheat and fermented whole grains plus cut greens as available are fed daily. Chicks are given the opportunity to dust bathe and ducklings the opportunity to swim daily.
Of course poultry can be fed on regular bagged feed but we have seen such marked improvement in our birds' health, resistance to parasites like coccidia and general appearance that the extra work of sprouting and fermenting is worth it for us!

If you are visiting the farm we are happy to talk about poultry nutrition and share some of our fermented feed as a starter for your own feed fermentation project!
